Nassau’s most visited attraction, recently renovated. The Queen's Staircase is probably the most famous architectural attraction to see in Nassau. Tourist from all over the world came to climb the Queen's Staircase. What make the Queen’s staircase so remarkable is that it was not built but instead carved out of solid limestone by slaves in the late 18th century to be used as an escape route from Fort Fincastle to the sea, in the event Nassau was invaded by the French.
Slavery was later abolish in the British empire by Queen Victoria, And this 102-foot staircase was named in honor of the 65 years of Queen Victoria's reign. This staircase once housed 66 steps however over time one of the steps have been reclaimed by the earth and now the Queen's Staircase has 65 steps.
